OUR PRIORITIES FOR CONNECTICUT

THREE PRIORITIES FOR CONNECTICUT.

These are the issues Gwen will champion as Lieutenant Governor — grounded in what residents have asked for at kitchen tables, town halls, and front porches across the state.

SPECIAL FOCUS

Veterans, Military Families & Survivor Support

As veterans, Adrian Bonenberger and Gwen Samuel understand that service to our nation does not always end when military service ends.

Connecticut is home to thousands of veterans and military families who have sacrificed in service to our country. While many veterans successfully transition to civilian life, others continue to face challenges related to physical injuries, mental health, employment, housing, access to healthcare, and the lasting effects of trauma experienced during service.

Over the past decade, Congress and the Department of Veterans Affairs have taken important steps to improve support for veterans affected by Military Sexual Trauma (MST), post-traumatic stress, and other service-connected conditions. However, too many veterans still struggle to navigate complex systems, access benefits they have earned, and obtain timely care and support.

As a Marine Corps veteran, Gwen Samuel believes no veteran should be left behind. That includes veterans whose wounds may not be visible.

The Bonenberger-Samuel administration will work to strengthen partnerships between Connecticut, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, veteran service organizations, community providers, and local governments to ensure veterans and their families can more easily access available resources and support.

Our priorities include:

  • Expanding awareness of available veteran benefits and services.
  • Improving access to mental health and trauma-informed care.
  • Supporting veterans transitioning into civilian careers, skilled trades, and entrepreneurship.
  • Strengthening support for military families, caregivers, and survivors.
  • Promoting veteran housing stability and reducing homelessness.
  • Supporting outreach and resources for veterans affected by Military Sexual Trauma and other service-related trauma.
  • Encouraging greater veteran participation in public service, community leadership, and civic engagement.

Leadership, service, accountability, and resilience are values veterans bring home with them. Connecticut should honor that service not only with words, but with meaningful support and opportunities to thrive.
